Harmony Road Supplemental Enrichment Programs

Junior Music Camp

The Harmony Road Junior Music Camp is designed to provide four to six-year-olds with a multi-faceted experience in music, movement, creative arts activities, and socialization.

This program is structured to be presented over a five-day period- two hours daily. We recommend 8 to 12 children in each camp group with one certified Harmony Road teacher and a camp assistant.

Each camp day has a special theme. Themes include: Dinosaur Day, Nutcracker Day, Teddy Bear Day, Peter and the Wolf Day, and Carnival of Animals Day.

Activities include singing and singing games, movement activities, chants and rhymes, arts and crafts including making simple rhythm instruments, keyboard/piano games and exploration, and musically themed videos and stories. The goal for the camp is to encourage each child to be involved with musical and artistic activities which help them grow in their musical, socialization and leadership skills. Camp members invite their friends and parents for a half hour show and tell presentation at the end of the week.

Meet the Composer Camps (ages 7 – 12)

Harmony Road offers a camp format based around specific composers. This program is designed for continuing Harmony Road students (ages 7 – 12), or students who have at least a level 1 playing and singing competency in this same age group. This program meets daily for five days – in 2 hour sessions. Students experience the music and social/cultural setting of the particular composer, play solos and ensembles, compose, do creative projects, play recorder and percussion ensembles. Campers present a program at the end of the week for friends and parents. This enrichment program strengthens each student’s skills and greatly expands their understanding of the part music plays in history and world cultures.

Keyboard Orchestra (Early Ensemble)

This is a 4 session program designed to be offered in the summer or during school breaks. Classes meet for 45 minutes daily or bi-weekly. This class provides an ensemble experience for early level Harmony Road students with basic reading and playing skills and other students in the community who have a similar skill level. This program enhances reading and listening skills and encourages teamwork. Parents are invited to be involved.

Keyboard Orchestra (Intermediate Ensemble) is the same format as above and designed for students who have completed Harmony Road Book 4, Young Musician Book 4, or Keyboard Prep Book 3. Students from the community with similar skill levels may also participate in this program. Parent involvement is encouraged.
